Christmas Shopping with Purpose
Here at The Glorious Table, our hearts are bent towards sharing our voices. Our goal is to offer truth, grace, and passion with each post. We want to challenge women to grow through the study of God’s Word and by living his truth in their relationships.
Every single one of the women at our table–contributors and readers alike (that means you!)–has a voice she can use for good. During the holiday season, one of the biggest ways we use our voices is with the purchases we make.
We can use our voices for justice, love, forgiveness, and compassion by purchasing gifts for our friends and family that reflect a greater purpose or a passion for enacting change. We don’t just have to throw our money at big box stores or the most convenient online suppliers. We can take a few minutes to read and research, finding organizations that believe in fair trade and social justice. We can support growth and love by supporting ethical businesses as we wrap our purchases for our friends and families.
To help you, the women at our table, join in using your voice to speak love this Christmas, we want to share five ethical sellers with give-back business plans:
Love41 A leather company that gives 100% of its profits to African New Life Ministries working with genocide survivors in Rwanda.
Noonday Collection A fair trade fashion and jewelry company that recruits and pays artists from around the world.
Readerly Products contain quotes from famous books and hymns. 10% of profits are donated to Alfalit International to increase literacy around the world.
Bears For Humanity Adorable handmade and organic teddy bears sewn by at-risk women. For every teddy purchased, another is donated to a child in need.
Branded Collective Jewelry made by actual survivors of human trafficking. Each piece is branded with a number representing one of the millions of people trapped in the sex trade.
As we commemorate the birth of Christ and the gifts of the Magi to the infant Savior by giving gifts to our own loved ones, we can shop thoughtfully and intentionally.
At home, Ginger Newingham is in charge of wiping noses, wiping bottoms, wiping mouths, and wiping off the table (with different rags, of course!). She and her husband live in Athens, IL with their three children – a Bulgarian, a biological son, and a Latvian. Ginger blogs at ourmomentsdefined.com about living intentionally while raising two adopted sons with special needs.
